    Determine unmarked fuse capacity
We have been replacing the fan on our DVD player and in the process accidentally short circuited the device and blew a fuse. The fuse is unmarked with a ceramic casing. Is there anyway to determine the capacity so we can get a suitable replacement?

You may have to use a Magnifier, writing is very small.

You can look at the wattage of the appliance and divide by the voltage and multiply by 1.5 assuming this is a line fuse. Take the lower standard rating available. This should be an OK number.

The value of the fuse is usually engraved very small on the ends, so look closely.

    Moved to forum from email:

Thank you KISS for your reply. I got out my magnifier and found some
    Markings:
Wickman F8H 250V. 5mmx20mm, ceramic. I have determined the meaning
Of all the markings except the 8, and the amperage of the fuse. If you
Can tell from this I would appreciate your input. Also can you
Recommend a resource for a fuse of this type? There are apparently thousands of
Fuse types in the world. Thank you for your help, I have learned a
    Lot through this investigation. Calmtaylor.

I really need to know the mains voltage in your area (100, 120, 240). I also need to know either the wattage of the unit in VA or Watts or the current in amps. This is required by law to be on the unit.

0.8 Amps makes more sense for a plain DVD player, but 8 Amps makes more sense for a ceramic body fuse. So help me out.

The wattage is 600w and the voltage is 120vac.

    600/120=5 Amps.

5 * 1.5 is 7.5 and the next standard fuse is 8 amps. So it's an 8 amp fuse.

This fuse will work: Search Results - Buy Electronic Parts Electronics Components Computer Parts

Very tough to track down. There is an 8A ceramic body fuse here.
