I have to taken my cat maggie to the vet several times for constipation. They give her a enima, then send her home. I have tried pumpkin, olive oil to no avail. My question is. Do they make a laxative for cats? Maggie is 12.5 years old. Any help would be appricated greatley.

I have a cat that has had severe constipation a few times. The first time, the vet was able to give her several enemas over 2 days to relieve the problem, the second time, the vet gave her an enema and manually extracted her bowels, but she still was unable to successfully poop when we got her home.

We gave her multiple enemas, lactalose, wet food, etc. but she would continue to strain with no results.
She eventually stopped eating and drinking again. I finally bought some plain canned pumpkin - NOT pie mix (right now it is very difficult to find I guess due to several bad growing seasons). Since she wasn't eating, I mixed the pumpkin with a little water and used a syringe (without the needle!) to give her five or six 4ml syringes full of the pumpkin (I used just enough water to be able to draw the mix into the syringe). She didn't seem to mind the taste of it, and I've read that some cats will eat it on their own.

Within 24 hours, she had pooped several times! The poops were still pretty 'dry' (sort of like she had eaten grass, but she's an indoor cat so that definitely didn't happen), but at least she was pooping!

Obviously, I can't swear it was the pumpkin, but nothing else seemed to have any effect at all (even after nearly a week) and she did poop within 24 hours of the pumpkin. I'm going to continue to try to feed her pumpkin, either mixed with her food, straight, or through a syringe. Hopefully this will keep her constipation under control.

I know this is an old question, but I hope someone finds this information helpful.
