Protandim & Cholesterol
I started taking Protandim about 3 months ago. Their web site is http://www.protandim.com/ Every 6 months, I have a lipid profile done because I am taking 10 MG of Lipitor daily. For the past 5 years, my cholesterol has been below 180, my triglycerides have been below 100, my LDL has been below 110 and my HDL has been above 45. Last week I had another lipid profile done and the results were much different than on all previous tests. My Cholesterol was 194, my triglicerides were 120, my LDL was 133 and my HDL was 37, which is the lowest it has ever been. In addition , my Creatinine was 1.4, my CO2 was 30.1, my ALT/SGPT was 72 and my CHOL/HDL Ratio was 5.2. Normally, my CHOL/HDL Ratio is around 3.3. Is there any way that the use of Protandim could have resulted in this latest Lipid Profile being so much worse than all previous times it was done? Nothing else has changed, as far as eating habits, exercise, etc. Thank you.

Tests
Hi,
I also take Lipitor, with limits within range by blood testing once a year now.
I would talk with your doctor. Why did your doc change your medication?
I see no reason to start a new medication, if the Lipitor is working good; and if the Lipitor is not causing any liver problems.
If this was just one test, you might ask your doctor to do another, just to confirm it. Not all tests are accurate! It could possibly be bad readings.
Please talk with you doctor, and find out why your medication was changed.
I am not a doctor, but only speaking from one who takes medications for both high blood pressure and cholesterol, every day, for at least 15 yrs.

Cholesterol, Antioxidants and your health...
Strong antioxidants can help individuals with high cholesterol by preventing the "bad cholesterol" from turning into a nasty plaque which will eventually blocks the arteries, while simultaneously supporting the good cholesterol thus "keeping the pipes clean".
My father recently had his cholesterol checked (its 260) thus I have been doing a ton of research on this. I have recommended him to:
- do daily exercise (he walks, rides bikes at the gym) & and striving to hit the 1 hour mark.
- cut all fat foods from his diet,
- start drinking POM juice ( http://www.pomwonderful.com/) this is good stuff a bit more expensive than regular juice but well worth it, it works at supporting you're cardiovascular system.
- Up his antioxidant level! Eat as much fruit as possible and take Proleva ( http://www.proleva.com)
Andy, after reviewing your post and looking at that protandim site the only thing I can think is that, that product has a lot of weird ingredients in it, things we're not used to eating on a regular basis - maybe your having a adverse reaction to something in it... I have not tried the product and don't want to speak poorly of it, but that's the first thing that came to my mind.
Let me know if anyone has any other tips I can forward to my father.

Consumer Ed
Ron,
Thank you for the information about Proleva. I checked out your web site and would be more than willing to try the product. Unfortunately, my wife and I are going through difficult financial times, thus we have already cancelled our auto-order for Protandim and simply don't have the money to purchase any other products at this time. We are having difficulty just making ends meet, but if circumstances change in the future, I would love for both of us to start using your product. It's sad that money has to get in the way of good health, but that's just the way it is for now. Thanks for thinking of me. Take care.
Andy

Andyrose,
I have been taking protandim for 6 months. I'm 52 yr old male and my only health problem is high blood pressure. My doctor has performed 4 lipid profiles on me in the last 12 months. My numbers are all normal and slightly, but not dramatically improved after taking protandim. I hope this information may be of some help to you.

First Lipitor is a statin drug. Statin drugs along with the natural product "Red yeast rice" reduce the production of Co-Q10 that protects your muscles (Including your heart muscle) from damage. Consider asking your doctor if you can take Co-Q10 with the Lipitor to make it safer. You might also ask the doctor if you can switch to Policosanol or fish oil.
As to the Protandim, I am surprised. I take Protandim without a problem.
I have been investigating Anti-Aging since 1997. I became excited to find a product that would increase our natural internal antioxidants: super oxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione and catalase (CAT).
I had long suspected that SOD and glutathione had powerful anti-aging properties.

I've been taking Protandim since May 2009. I also take Lipitor which keeps my cholesterol levels just under 190. However, my last complete blood test my cholesterol was at 154. It was as low as 129 on a health screening (finger prick blood test). I was so thrilled I signed up to be a Protandim distributor. FIrst of all, Protandim is not an anitoxidant it is a nrf2 upregulator. You cannot consume enough antioxidants to lower the amount of oxidative stress that Protandim does. Protandim does in fact help with high cholesteral as well helps with many other conditions. If you do your research you will find that oxidative stress is the common link to over 200 diseases. There is nothing else on the planet that can do what Protandim can do. Go to www.pubmed.gov and search oxidative stress and also search Protandim. This a government regulated sight which means if the studies are not true they cannot be published. Hope this helps.

Stress is why your results were worse than normal.

I have also been taking protandim for a while now and have not personally seen any negative side effects. I would say though, if you think it might be causing a problem for you, consult a doctor or switch to something else.
Personally I have been ordering it from http://undergroundwellness.com/protandim/ but there are a number of places you can get the supplement. If anyone knows of a better deal feel free to let me know, but I have been getting a good price on it there and haven't had a problem with my orders.
Good luck and Good health.

I get Protandim from http://www.Studynrf2.com
I read an article on PubMed.gov about Lipid production and Nrf2 activation, so it doesn't surprise me that it helps. Of course exersise and good nutrition are important, however, increasing exersise creates more free radicals, and eating foods that raise your motabolism increase it also. If your young, its not a problem, but as you age, your body needs help.

Thank you all for your advice. I started taking Protandim 5 weeks ago just to help a friend who was starting in the business. I am a cynic and a skeptic and very anit sales people, not that she was pushy but I thought that this was going to join the resto of my supplements and gather dust. But to my complete surprise the rash behind me year which had been there for months disappeared, my acid reflux has improved and I no longer take Prilosec, the spot on my shoulder which was tender has gone and my muscles seem much less still. So I went on line and checked it out. It is a publicly traded company and therefore transparent. I went to Lifevantage website and checked out the clinical trials. I went to wwwpubmed.gov and it was cited there and that is a govermnent website NIH. I then watched Dr McMord on John Quinones ABC Prime Time Special and that was amazing. He is a world wide renowned scientist who after 20 plus years of research came up with Protandim. It is not a dietary supplement. If you go to the websites you will learn more. I highly recommend it. Next month I will be getting my cholesterol levels checked and after taking it for 2 months I am wondering what it will be. I am unable to take statins as they don't agree with me. I have tried them all. The research on Protandim is amazing. It is backed by science and clinical trials and there are 20 universities studying it and they are all funding them themselves. According to the research I did today, the company does not pay for any studies.
Good health to all of you and thanks again for responding to my question. Will let you know if there is an improvement in my cholesterol.

Neutralising cholesterol
[ 2 Answers ]
Lets say one loves to eat eggs. But it is high in cholesterol. What are some ways to neutralise or lower it after consumption?
Again, this is a question about after consumption. Not how to avoid it; therefore, "don't eat eggs!" is not an answer.
