    Can't Light Pilots
I have a gas fireplace (freestanding) in my kitchen & gas logs in my LR. Both units are only a year old. I lit the pilots myself last winter w/o a problem but am having no luck this year. I've tried holding the pilot knob down to bleed air out of the lines. My gas is on at the meter. No other valves or switches to turn on & off. Stumped. Called my local natural gas company & they charge $60 apiece to light the pilots. :( Any helpful advice appreciated.

You might check the pilot assemblys to make sure nothing like a spider web is plugging them up. Other wise if gas is to the unit they should lite. Sometimes it takes a while to bleed the gas lines.

You didn't explain much, but I will offer this tip, if the problem is that the pilot ignites but goes out when you release the button. Look to see if the flame is yellow or blue. If it is yellow, most likely the flame is not hot enough to heat the thermocouple. So, blow the orifice with compressed air, and be sure the air intake hole is not obstructed. A hot, completely burning flame should be blue.
