Read the sticky message at the top of the Real Estate Law section.

One word of caution - we get a lot of inquiries here from people who have added their partner to a deed, but sometime later they split up and the ex-partner now has half ownership, essentially resulting in a transfer of a lot of money from the original owner to his or her ex. I would recommend that before you do this, you and your partner set up a contract that spells out who is responsible for real estate taxes and insurance, and what happens if you ever split up - for example, do you agree to sell the house , and if so how would the proceeds be split? I recommend talking to a real estate lawyer to better understand the issues and your options.
