Evening out your skin tone is going to require that you exfoliate and stick with a daily skin care regimen. This is how I did it:

I used to be a beauty advisor for Clinique cosmetics... Every single day I did the following:

    1. Exfoliate with Clinique 7 Day Scrub Cream. Wash with Clinique soap, Use Clinique Clarifying lotion (which is kind of like a toner), and then moisturize WITH A MOISTURIZER APPROPRIATE FOR YOUR SKINTYPE. (if you are oily, do not use anything with oil in it) Then put on a product called "Total Turnaround" (also by clinique). It reaches down into the skin and breaks up those hard to get to pieces of dead skin so that they'll be easier to exfoliate later on.

    2. At night, remove your makeup. (Soap is NOT a makeup remover). Then skip the Seven Day Scrub Cream. Wash, Clarify, moisturize.

Your skin will have never looked better... I promise. BUT makesure when you're purchasing your products, that you ask a skin care consultant for help. Ask her how long she's been doing her job and look at her skin to see if she seems to be taking care of her own skin properly. There are specific systems for specific skin types and using the wrong one will only make your skin worse.

As far as lightening your skin, the only way to really do that is with makeup. I don't suggest using a foundation that is too light for you, because then you'll just look silly. Get a foundation professionally matched and then lighten with illuminators and blushes.

(I was a skin care consultant and makeup artist for 3 years)
