    CPT tax claim and H1
    Hi,

    My CPT started on May 2007 and I got a contract job on my CPT on August 2007. My OPT is starting OCT 2007 and I will graduate December 2007.

    My Gross pay = 5376.82 pm

    Federal tax = 858.99

    State tax CA = 313.31

    Following are my questions.

    1. When and how do I claim refund on the federal taxes, and how much can I expect in
    return.

    2. I may leave the company soon, So in order to claim the taxes do I need to have the
    pay stub.

    3. Also, Will leaving the company without getting effect my H1 next year.

    It will be really nice, if someone can throw some light on this. Thanks in advance.

    Regards

    Raju

    1) You will need to file federal and state income tax returns to claim whatever refund you are due.

    2) Keep the pay stub regardless. However, you should get a W-2 from the company in January whether are still working with them or not; this is required by law. Make sure they have a good mailing address for you.

    3) I do not believe leaving the company will affect your H-1B visa if you have a sponsor for that visa.
