    Tax Return on CPT
    Hi,

I am a student (married on F1) who interned with a company in California during the summer of 2007. Federal as well as state tax was deducted from my income. I did this internship on a CPT credit.

    Question:

I heard that the federal and state tax withheld can be claimed back in my 2008 return as students on F1 are not taxed.

Do let me know if that's right.

    Thanks
    Rajat

    Rajat:

Income earned while on CPT is NOT subject to Social Security and Medicare taxes if you were working under a F-1 visa.

This income IS subject to federal and state income taxes, however. If you made below a set amount, you MAY be entitled to a refund. I cannot say for sure without knowing how much was earned during the internship.

Contact me via email with the details and I will give you an estimate on what you will owe in taxes.

    Thanks for your reply.

Can you let me know your email? And also, do you provide professional services for helping students like me to manage their taxes.

    Thanks

My email ([email protected]) is also listed below.

And, yes, I DO provide such services to students, both U.S. and foreign.
