    Broken down york heatpump
I have a York heatpump, outdoor package unit last week the weather cooled down and we switched the t-stat off, last night I noticed the emergency heat light was on, I switched the t-stat to cool and the air handler comes on but not the compressor, and the emergency heat light remained on. I cycled power on the unit and after about 1 or 2 minutes the emergency heat light came back on. What's up can anyone help me??

Check your breakers going to the a/c unit. If your heat pump faults out the aux heat takes over. If you change it back to cooling will the heatpump run?

Does your thermostat have a switch to put it in emergency heat? Some of the older stats had this switch.

Take the cover of the t-stat off and plce a jumper between the R terminal and the y terminal if the compressor comes on remove the jumper relace the cover and turn the t -stat to cooling with the temp lowered enough for it to come on if it does not come on the tstat is bad
