Installing laminate flooring on stairs-overhang not tall enough
When attempting to install laminate flooring on our stairs, my husband and I have found that the stair bull nose dose not completely cover the underlying stair. The step is 3/4'” while the bull nose is 3/8”, leaving 3/8” showing. One person suggested that we cut down the part of the step that is showing. I am afraid to do this as I think that it will diminish the amount of weight that can be distributed on the edge of the step. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.:(

You could simply slide the laminate flooring forward leaving the 3/8 gap at the rear then find a suitable trim such as quarter round or a cove type trim to cover the gap at the rear. Personally I would not put laminate on stairs but that's just me. How are you fastening it? If it was at all in my budget I would have removed the old stair treads and replaced them with oak. YES, its a lot of work but WOW the look of finished oak is beautiful at least to me. Good luck.
