I will be out of town for a month or 2 and am going to shut the water off at the shutoff valve in the house. I have a couple of old connections that leak and need repair but won't be able to get to them until I get back. Is there any need to drain the pipes & hot water heater ? Thanks

When I started to replace a bathroom sink faucet the hotwater shutoff valve broke (cheap plastic) so I can't shut off the hot water under the sink. What should I do? Is there a way to shut off hot water to the house while I replace the faucet then turn back on, or do I have to drain the hotwater...
