Broken water main close to house foundation
I just waisted 30 min on my last message that did not take so here a short version.
After repair of my main water main ( gray quest coupling cracked between the blue pipe from street and the metal fitting going to 1 of 2?? Valves. The house was built in dallas Texas in 1986, the valves had no cover just Under about 18" of clay and dirt and about 3' from foundation. Since I have repaired do I just fill whole? Thing,valves and all in with dirt which is the way I found it. Seems like it should have a small round cover with a lid and some dirt on top of that or will it freeze. And what is the second valve for,one turns all the water off to the house and the other I don't know (hot water? ) |

OK Mike,
If I've read you right you've already repaired the problem and now you're asking about the valves on the water service. Do you have a meter. I don't see you mentioning one. If you're on city water then you should have a meter as well as a meter box. This is furnished by the city . As a rule there is one shut off valves in a meter box. This is installed downstream from the meter so that the city can work on or replace the meter. The second valve you speak of could be a branch to a sprinkler system or a house shut off. Bottom line, call the cith and have them install a box on your water service. Regards, tom |
