Hole in AC condenser cooling coil
My home AC unit is not cooling. I thought the compressor was not working, I had the capacitor checked out and it is good, I cleaned the contacts and when I reinstalled it and turned the system on I discovered a small hole on the coil, since the line is not charged (all freon leaked out) I couldn't hear the compressor going. Anyway I would like to fix the coil and am wondering if I can plug it with solder I use for sweating copper pipe or do I need a different solder. The AC unit is at least 14 years old if this is important. Thank you.

No solder, braze it. Pull a vacuum and recharge. You will need a certified tech to add refrigerant.. Won't cost much more to have tech do the complete job

Thanks, I'll take your advice since they can do a general check on the system for any other problems.
