    Bathtub recaulking
I am recaulking a bath tub and have a 1/2 " gap to 3/4 " gap between the tub and the tile. I have had no luck in the past with my caulking jobs. Any suggestions for filling the gap prior to caulking, I read about using oakum to fill the gap, ever hear of this?
    Thank you

CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN... have to have all the "goo" gone. Bleach... let it dry.

There are caulking backers, foam. I've not used them. Usually, though, caulk fails because all the goo isn't gone. Soap scum, etc.

Just my 2 cents, wait for some more input from others that may have been there...

Wait. Do not caulk. Why do you have a gap that large? Your tub is settling. Check the floor for rot if it is wood. The supports for the tub are failing.

I have a 2d floor bathtub with a shower. Whenever someone takes a bath, water leaks down to the 1st floor bathroom. It was so bad I had to have the ceiling in the downstairs bathroom replaced. This only happens when someone takes a bath, not when someone uses the shower. I recently had a plumber...

Recaulking around bathtub [ 2 Answers ]

Over a period, the sealing material between my tub (fiberglass I think) and my sheet vinyl flooring has gotten ugly. It's still water tight, but very uneven. I'd like to remove the old stuff and replace it with a neat bead of clean new stuff. How to remove the old caulk has me beat, I tried a...

Bathtub not draining [ 3 Answers ]

My house was built around 1953. We have lived in it for only 8 months. The whole time we have lived there the lever to move the drain stopper in the bathtub has not budged. We only ever shower so I didn't worry about it. About a week ago, the tub started draining slower and slower. It now will...

Help! Under the bathtub... [ 1 Answers ]

We are putting in a new tub due to some leakage in the previous tub surround. When we pulled up the tub, the tub drain hooks to a larger drain. The top of this larger drain appears to be open. Is this to vent the drain? It appears that the toilet also hooks to this drain. What keeps the...

Bathtub drain [ 1 Answers ]

Anyone care to share their preference for the lever type bathtub drain vs the lift and turn type. I have always had the lever type stopper but I don't think they have worked real well after they get a little age on them.
