    All house drains
We just moved into a house that was built in the 1970's and we are finding that all the drains in the house drain very slowly and get stopped up at times. We have used a plunger on all the drains and it does seem to help. The toliets flush but sometimes it leaves some toilet paper in the bottom. What do you think that cause could be and how can we fix this problem.

    Thanks.

It is possible that you sink and your lavatories can be slow, each by themselves. Meaning that you might clean out the lavatory drain and it would not help the other drains, the same with the sink. I am not sure about the commodes, if a commode stops up and it is more that just the commode usually the water will back up into the bathtub or shower.

If all the drains are slow, it could be a partial blockage of the main line. It may be fairly easy to fix if you have a clean out outside near the foundation. Rent a big sewer auger and run it down the clean out. If that doesn't seem to help, try doing the drains one at a time. You may also want to go up on the roof and go down the vents. They are a good place to start if you don't have a clean out.
