I have a 95 wrangler. I am having trouble engaging first and reverse on a manual. You really have to shake the shifter to get it in gear. It only happens on 1st and R, is this a problem with my linnkage in my shifter.

That's a top loading trans (the shift handle goes through a plate on top to the trans). If the shifter bushing was the culprit, the symptons would likely be in all positions. First and reverse have different shift shafts and different shift forks. It's possible the clutch may be worn some and the symptoms only show up in 1 and R because you're sitting still. Does the vehicle "jump" when you force it in?

No it doesn't jump at all... it doesn't feel like it is the cluch as there is no slippage whatsoever. It does seem like it happens in 2nd too... not nessecarily that it doesn't engage it takes a couple shakes and goes right in. a friend mentioned a linkage problem not sure what that is, can you explain

I'm going to recommend you take a ride to the local ASE certified transmission shop. They will need to experience the problem. Some shops charge little or nothing for diag, hoping you'll buy their recommended repair(s). For them it may be a quick diag, but discuss diagnostic fees before you hand over your keys. And don't be afraid to ask about their guaranty.
