    Laundry drain not draining
All right well, I know nothing of plumbing, at all... but my father-in-law installed our washing machine drain, and it is not draining, at all... all right, well we live in a 70 yr old house, and I admit a LOT of gunk was built up in the copper pipe that is used to drain the sink and the washing machine, but I ran a snake down it and I mean, it should hold some kind of water, as it did not feel entirely clogged. He made the p trap, its about 3 or 4 foot off ground where hose attaches, or rather sits, then on the top of the p-trap he put like a bowl and had to cut off a couple parts of the end of the drain hose to get it to fit in there, it is not secured in there but rather just shoved in there, then the p-trap goes into what I guess is a t, cemented and clamped on the pvc, then runs straight to the copper pipe, when the washer enters the drain cycle, it INSTANTLY starts running out of said "bowl" like its hitting some kind of air pressure, I mean NOTHING drains whatsoever, it all just comes rushing out, putting water on our floor, making the air coming out of a/c smell horrid. Any suggestions? By the way laundry is in basement, and we have a septic tank and everything jic that's needed. THANK YOU in advance

You mean daddy in law didn't put the trap close to the floor and install a 36" standpipe off it? I've put up a rough drawiung of a typical washer set up.
If your washer set up doesn't come close to looking like this then you're in deep doo-doo, (and not only all over your floor). Why? Oh why did he ever give you a installation like the one you describe. Are you perhaps "on the outs " with your in-laws? Cheers, Tom,

That's exactly what it looks like haha, but yeah me and him don't exactly see eye to eye haha, but like I said it just doesn't drain, we got some drain buildup stuff that hopefully will work but I just wanted to make sure that he didn't overlook something that maybe a more experienced person would hear and be like, oh yeah do this, I mean when we cut open the 2 inch copper pipe there was probably only like a dime-sized opening in the "gunk", evidently the people who live here before us, for 70 years mind you, had been pouring goo down it and never bothered to get it cleaned out. But thanks anyway haha

Laundry Drain Blocked [ 1 Answers ]

I noticed that water was streaming down the front of my roof and that it must be coming from the roof vent. I also noticed that this happened only when the washer machine was spinning.
