I'm pretty good about reading other posts and I just couldn't find an answer for my situation...

I bought my house last year in Arizona (very very hot now) and the thermostat looked like the same one from when the house was built 20-25 years ago. Deciding to do a cheap upgrade I purchased the Hunter thermostat Model 44260. My house has both A/C and heat, although primarily it is used for A/C. When I took off the old thermostat, the wiring didn't seem to match what was on the installation instructions. I called Hunter and the guy told me to put which wires where but at the end of the process, my A/C goes on just enough to keep the house at 80 but it won't go lower. Seeing as how everything worked before, there must be something I did wrong with connecting the wires, so here is what I had before and what I have now.

Before:

I had a red wire going into an R terminal, a grey wire going into the G terminal, a blue wire going to a B terminal, a white wire going into a W terminal, and a yellow wire going into a Y terminal.

Now:

Grey wire (previous G) going into G, a jumper going from Rc and Rh, a red wire (previous R) also going into Rh, a yellow wire (previous Y) going into Y/O, and nothing else.

It seemed weird to me that the Hunter guy told me not to use the white or the blue wires. I'm sure one of them was the common wire to give the thermostat power and after doing research I would have thought the white wire was get heat, meaning there would be no effect on the A/C but obviously something is wrong.

Hopefully I've detailed the situation very clearly and the solution is simple. Please let me know!
