Numerous Java in add remove programs
I have Java 2 runtime environment SE V1.4.2_03,
    Java2 runtime environment 6 update1,
J2SE runtime environment 5.0 update 10 and JRSE runtime environment 5.0 update 11 in my add remove programs.
I was told by someone on another site that I should uninstall all of these and then get the latest version of Java. I'm just checking to see if this is true before I uninstall something I shouldn't. I'm also not sure if the last two on my list here is Java or not since it just says JRSE and not Java.

Have they always been there, or did they install themselves?

I don't know if they have been here or not. I think I got the most recent one on the list as far as the other ones I don't know how long they've been there

Yes you can delete all of them and get the latest version of java from the Sun Microsystems website.

I think the latest version is Version 6, update 1. You can get it here

Do you use the auto updater, oor do you install them manually from the website?

If it is from the site, the old java systems will stay there... Try using the auto-updater when you get the chance,

If it is not turned on, go to your java directroy, or the folder your latest version of java is located, and look for a program called "jucheck" and that will turn your auto-updater on...

    Hope this helped!

Haxzor50, I've done it both ways I think. Thanks for your answer. My auto updater is on now but wasn't on for awhile because I disabled it.

    Lol, don't disable it...

Delete the old files, and just keep the auto-update on, and your problem is solved :)

The only issue with keeping auto-update turned on is that it takes up some of your processor memory. I have a very old PC that was slowed down significantly by this, but if your processor can handle it no problem, by all means keep the auto-update feature turned on. That was why I disabled it in the first place.
