    Credit untion account lien
In 1998 I co-signed for my son's car at the same time I purchased one for myself. I have paid my car off but, unfortunately, my son didn't do the same. I plan on retireing in Oct. on my 65th birthday and am concerned about my soclial security check being seized by the finance company via a lien on by bank account. Can they do this?

They can't garnish your SS check, but be aware that your credit score is going to head south. This will hurt you if you ever need to take a loan (for your next car, perhaps), rent an apartment, get insurance, or anything else that involves a check on your credit score. You are legally responsible for this debt - I suggest you counsel your son to work out a payment scheme with the lender, and failing that, own up to your obligations and start paying it off yourself.

While they can't garnish your SS check, once that check goes into the bank, they can attach all the money in your bank account once they get the judgement.

But as co-signer if your son does not make the payment you are suppose to pay, and need to start making payments to them
