Yes the #10 can be used for a 20 amp circuit. The #10 will connect to the terminals of the breaker. Not sure how else to answer that question. Is there something specific I can help with?

Yes you can use a 10-2 wire to wire your air conditioner.you need a 2 pole 20amp circuit breaker wich is actually 2 separate cir.breakers connected with a bar.now you put the black wire under one lug of the 2 pole breaker and the white wire under the other lug.the bare wire obviouly is the ground which go's on the nuetral bar.There is no nuetral on a 220v.air conditioner.now you need a 220v plug to plug you ac into. Black wire to one side and white to the other and bare to ground screw.theplug will have brass colored screws on both sides where you land your hot wires

Whoa Jeff.

If the wiring is being run from the main service panel, yes the bare wire can be connected to a Neutral Bus Bar because both Neutral and Ground are bonded together in the Main Service Panel. If the Circuit is being fed from a sub, then No. The bare wire must be connected to the Ground bus.

Also, 10/2 cable will require you to permanently mark the white or gray conductor to a color other than gray, white or green. Use sharpie pens or tape to signify that the conductor is not being used as a Neutral conductor.

This must be done at both ends of the conductor and at any openings along the way where the conductor is visible. Normally, I use Black, Red or Blue tape. In this instance, I would most likely choose to use Red.
