Your too funny, Orange, lol! I bet you're a beautiful girl and your being modest. But what a wonderful alternative to show people who you are than through you art. I do agree with you about using a picture. Im not too worried about it as I live in a big city. The only thing Im uncomfortable is putting a picture of my kids up on the board. I know some members have and that's fine but I don't want to take a risk with that. Its too bad because my girls are so cute, Id love for you guys to see them. I feeel close to a lot of people on this board and would love to do that. But there are sickos out there especially when some start threads on child porn, I don't want anyone like that leering at my girls.

Yeah I know what you mean about the kids' pics... I keep thinking that when my child is born, I will be really anxious to show you guys his or her first pictures, but then considering all the freaks I've encountered on this site too... yikes. It's probably not such a good idea. Too bad, because I already know my baby is going to be the cutest ever! ;)

Yeah I'm somewhat nervous about a freaky person tracking me down. I live in a smallish city, and I'm in the artistic community, which is small, and the Jewish community, which is even smaller. So it wouldn't be too hard to find me. Although, finding me and actually travelling to this barren wasteland of northwestern Canada are 2 different things... LOL. Actually I shouldn't complain, we've had a very mild winter so far. But the prairies to the south of here have been hard hit with lots of snow. Anyway I digress...

Thanks for your comments. And yeah other people say I am very attractive but I personally don't see it at all. But like I said earlier, I guess I wouldn't be marrying a doctor if I was THAT disgusting! Haha.

Mine is stupid but there just the same, my grandfather always said I started something and never finished it, he always called me little fire, because I never got up to a full roar, over the years it wound up little fire, lilfyre is spelled word was me because, little fire is taken every where you try to sign in, and my picture is generally a piggy that is my home waiting for a new forever home.

That's a pretty neat explanation of your username, lilfyre! And I especially like your new picture of a pig. It's cute and has really interesting markings!

I guess I should add that my avatar is no longer a painting I did for a friend, haha. It's currently of a spider from a Hallowe'en card I made. It's more accurate to say that all my avatars are something I've drawn or painted.

Hey Chava, (orange) That is your name isn't it?

You ask, "I'm just curious about the significance of everyone's usernames and avatars,"

speedball1 was kind of a second choice since speed was taken.
Way back in the 60's I was building choppers, working as a plumber when I had to and was vice president of a outlaw motorcycle club up in Tampa. My club name was Speed. I was Speed of the Evangelists Motor Cycle Club and life was one big non-stop party. You didn't think I got the name Speed by riding my scooter real fast did you? So speedball1 was the only nick close and I'd done a few of those in my time so that's the nick I ended up with.
Needless to say I mellowed out in the 70's and got my act together. Left the club, sold my scooter and buckled down to paying for a house. Today the only thing I ride is a 18 speed bicycle for exercise. That's weird! I'm riding a mountain bike in a state where the highest elevation's a little over 350 feet and on the coast anything the raises up 10 feet is called a hill. Go figure!
As for putting up one of those neat avatars, I would love to have one but don't have the foggiest on where to look for one or how to put it up after I found it. I told you guys I was a computer dummy! I've even forgotten how the smiley got up there. And now you know why speedball's nick is speedball1

Hey Tom, I love your story about your username... it was really cool and original! If you want a new avatar, I can try to help you... I could even make you a plumbing avatar if you like. I made all the avatars I've used on the site. Anyway let me know if you want help.

I know I already posted on my avatar, but since I changed it I thought Id tell you about it. Well I like using a picture of me. But sometimes that's boring and since I don't have any recent pictures of me yet I thought id changed it. Anyway Im using a picture of one of my favorite bands of all time, Metallica. LOVE EM, I had so many too shoose from, and even though this one goes way back to there early days I just love the picture. Thanks for letting me share.

Hey! That sounds great. Rick taught me how to put up images so I could answer plumbing questionsand now you offer to teach me how to put up a avatar. Thank you very much. Is there a place to check them out or can you just throw up any old picture? Thanks again, tom

There are lots of websites that offer free avatars, and I looked at some briefly for you, but I didn't find any that are specifically related to plumbing. Anyway, I can give you the address of a site, and you can browse through the avatars and see if there's any you like:

    http://www.avatarist.com/

This particular site has thousands of avatars, that's why I chose it. If you find an avatar you like, right-click on it and select "save picture as...", and save it to a folder on your computer. Or if you're on a mac, click and hold down the mouse button and you will be given an option to save the image. Make sure you remember where you've saved it so you can upload it later on!

And yes, you can also just put up a picture or an image that's already on your computer, provided it is the right size. If you have a picture in mind, you could post it here (I think you said Scott taught you how to do that?), and I can resize it for you so that it is suitable for an avatar. Then I can explain to you how to put it up.

OR, I can make you one. Take your pick, and let me know. :)

I have a jpeg image 317.3 kb I would like to put up as a avatar but admin will only give me 293 to play with. What now? How do I resize a attachment that's too big to put up? Tom

    LOLLL.

Do you know how to attach an image to an email? You could email the image to me, if you feel comfortable doing that. My "public" email address is [email protected]. I could resize it then.

    Hey Tom,
What image editing software do you have? In most you choose File>Save As and then select Options to resize the image. Make it aobut 75% of what it is now (example: if its 2"x4 make it 1.5"x3"). That should reduce it enough.

    Hey Scotty,
I don't really know what image editing software I have. Please explain. "choose File>Save As and then select Options to resize the image. Make it aobut 75% of what it is now (example: if its 2"x4 make it 1.5"x3")"
Do you mean after I get a picture on my hard drive I should do this? This would knock down the number of KB's the picture contains? Please excuse the stupid questions. Us plumbers are lost if we can't take a pipe wrench to our computers. Cheers, Tom

When you view an image on your computer, what do you use to do that? Like what's the name of the program that the image / photo is in when you see it? I think that's what Scott means. And he's right... you can resize within whatever program you're using... unless of course your images just open to a browser window.

But the exact way you do it does depend on the software you're using. If you could tell us what you use, we could give you detailed help. I have several editing software programs on my computer: Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Microsoft Image Composer, Adobe Photo Deluxe, etc... and they all have slightly different ways of resizing. When I did your avatar I resized it in Photoshop.

If you by chance have a digital camera or a DVC and load those pictures to your PC, then you probably received a CD with a photo-editing program too. Check your inventory and see if you installed any.

P.S. Orange, my favorite is PaintShopPro - make my coloring books with version 9.

Orange, "orange is my favorite color and also my favorite fruit." I have a small grove in my back yard. I have, Temples, Parson Browns, Valencias, Mandarin Tangerines, and Orlando Tangealos. Also Ruby Red and Pierson White Grapefruit. If you're a citrus lover and ever in Florida you have a standing invitation to come and pick to your hearts content. Tom
