Actually yes, students in Texas still take the summer off. Those "slow" children Bobby warned of may need a little summer tutoring.

Most of the public schools in the Las Vegas area are year round. They are on tracks that give the children breaks a few weeks here and there, but not a whole summer like in traditional public schooling from decades past. Nevada public schools rank 49th in education and I think Texas public schools averaged in the bottom half as well, from the figures that I recall. Fortunately for my family we are able to provide home schooling.

There are some districts that offer year round schooling as an option, I think ours does as well. It's not very popular around these parts... about as popular as public schools themselves.
