    Listing Order of Appearance?
    I have a randomized list of 5 different conditions (A-E)

    D
    B
    E
    A
    A
    C
    B
    D
    C
    A
    etc..

    I'd like to assign these a number based on their order of appearance... something like this...

    D 1
    B 1
    E 1
    A 1
    A 2
    C 1
    B 2
    D 2
    C 2
    A 3


    so I can use the numbers as a lookup value for vlookup.

    I'm pretty flexible with how this is achieved-- that is, the order of appearance numbers can be in all one column or multiple columns (based on what letter it's counting), or each letter could start with a different base number -- so A's are counted 1, 2, 3, et; B's are counted 11, 12, 13, etc, C's are counted 21, 22, 23, etc...

    What I'm really stumped by is just how to achieve the incrementation with each new appearance.

    Any suggestions?
