Just a quick recap
The DOJ had Hunter's laptop. Despite that they actively went along with the fiction that it was Russian disinformation.
Trump's Attorney General Bill Barr decided that they would not act on it because of the so called Justice Dept 60 day rule about election interference.
Attorney General Memorandum for All Department of Justice Employees Concerning Election Year Sensitivities (March 9, 2012)
Barr and senior department officials relayed the instructions in conversations with prosecutors because of their concern that it would affect the elections . They ignored a Repub lawmaker's request to appoint a special prosecutor.
Of course that did not keep James Comey from taking all types of steps in 2016 that could be construed as election interference.
So yesterday .Hunter confessed to tax evasion . What he did as the prosecution spelled out was taking Quid Pro Joe bribes from America's enemies . It is well known that if the public knew of the information in the laptop Quid would not have won.

So does the same rule apply to Trump ? Apparently not.
Prosecutor for the Jan 6 DC case Jack Smith filed sealed documents to presiding Judge Tanya Chutkan.
Jack Smith Files Mystery Sealed Document in Trump Case - Newsweek
Trump wants hearings on the case to resume after the election. But the judge has set hearings for next week. The judge admits that the formal trial will not happen before the election.
But that is not the point. The Dem's game plan is to have a steady stream of allegations made public during the election cycle.
Donald Trump’s attorney John Lauro said this a “sensitive time” with the presidential election approaching, suggesting that the government’s proposed response to the Supreme Court’s immunity decision would be too fast and unfair to Trump.
Judge Tanya S. Chutkan sternly responded that she is not taking the November election into account as she decides on how the case should proceed.
“This court is not concerned with the electoral schedule,” Chutkan said. “That’s not something I’m going to consider.”
Lauro then said that courts are not supposed to get involved with the electoral process.
“I am definitely not getting drawn into the electoral process,” Chutkan responded.
Lauro seemed unpersuaded: “This process is unfair, particularly during the sensitive time we are in.”
