Can a 20 year old get in trouble for dating a 16 year old even though not sex
I am a 16 year old girl in high school dating a 20 year old in the same high school. He is about to graduate in May but my mom says she will get the cops involved. Can he really get in trouble for us being together? We aren't having sex or anything else just kissing and hugging and holding hands. Is this bad?

Yes.
Adult/Child relationships of this type are doomed from the start.

If your mother does not give permission and you disobey her to keep seeing him, then, yes, he can get in legal trouble.
You are a minor and your mother is responsible for you. Her rules are what you have to obey even if you think they are unfair.

Until you are 18 you are under the control of your parents. If your parents say you can't date him and he continues to have a relationship with you he is defying their rights as parents and can get in legal trouble for it.
I would not like my 16yr old daughter dating a 20 yr old, especially one still in high school.

Your mom can make huge trouble for him that can follow him for the rest of his life with jail time. That's why 16 year old girls are called jail bait for ADULT guy.
He can't be too smart if he is 20 and just graduating high school. Hugging and kissing an under age girl that can land him in jail ain't too smart either. Better do as your mom says to the letter.

I also have to wonder why a 20 year old man is still in high school, well at least he is going to graduate.
Your mother is correct, and of course a 20 year old man is going to want sex, that will come as he things he can.
Your mom can cause a lot of legal issues for him

A 20 year old interested in a 16 year old is either feeble minded... or a sexual predator taking advantage of a less mature person... no matter how mature a 16 year old thinks they are... there is a VAST difference in maturity between 16 and 20... more than you can possibly believe. Until you are 20 yourself... then it will be obvious.
But in neither case..is he the sort of person you want to be fooling around with. Besides the world of trouble the parents can cause for him.....the sort of trouble that me mere accusation can ruin his life....even without actual charges being made or a conviction.

I'm with your mother on this one.
I hope she follows through and puts and end to the relationship, and the sooner the better.

Well thanks for all the suggestions and comments. We aren't talking no more and I had told him if he really liked me then he would wait till I turned 18. So we will see how things play out in less than 2 years. Thank y'all so much!
