Unprotected sex, girlfriend started heavy period next day. Safe to use next choice?
Had unprotected sex with girlfriend Saturday night the next morning her period started. Heavy bleeding. Would Next Choice pill be okay for her to use?

    Hello Shelby,

If she has started her menstruation and with the assumption that you pulled out the chances of contraception are fairly low. I would avoid pills such as those for they may have adverse effects on her hormones, but if you must read all of the possible side effects or contact a doctor. Next time please consider contraception. Goodluck, and keep us updated.

This is her second period of the month, she has irregular periods. The pull out method was used but it could still be possible that some got inside.

    Shelby,

If no ejaculation occurred the chances fall significantly, though there is still a chance. The ovum that was discarded during this menstruation likely wouldn't have been replaced with a fertilizable ovum before the beginning of her menstruation. I'd say chances are you and her are in the clear, but for an extra buffer of ease she could theoretically take the pill. Goodluck and keep us updated.

You're using the pull out method. So you're trying to get pregnant than? You know that there is enough sperm in the pre-ejaculate to in-pregnant your girlfriend right?

Especially with the irregular periods, it is hard to say when the egg was released. It could have been released during or before the period and was in the fallopian tubes when she had her period. So the next time you have sex, she could get pregnant.

I would look at using a Plan B and since you DON'T want children you should probably stop trying to have kids. Use more than one form of birthcontrol, and realize that the pull out IS NOT birthcontrol.

The pull out, to me is not even a method, but it does reduce the sperm count but does not stop it, there is often sperm in the early fluids. And also men forget to pull out on time ( sometimes)

If you had sex right before a period, pregnancy can still happen. So it is still possible.

But yes, the morning after pill would still be a choice, but it is not a regular birth control but an emergancy method, you just did not use proper protection

Not always true (though it is for most)... some women DO actually conceive during their period and have the baby, and its actually a lot more common than most would think because few people admit to it... the sex during a period being somewhat taboo and the mindset many have of yuck...

You can NEVER assume a safe period. And you have to treat every encounter as the one that might get her pregnant.
