Food issues - 6 weeks pregnant
Greetings, it's Alex from England. My sister is 6weeks pregnant and suddenly gave up eating solid food, complaining that she feels odd and uneasy to chew them. Moreover, she also has completely started to dislike Non-Veg (fish & poultry) foods. She used to be a very healthy and good eater, who properly tastes & chews her food completely before swallowing it. Is this a normal sign during pregnancy at this stage or might there be any other issues. Thank you.

No, I don't think this is a normal reaction to pregnancy. For sure, you must explain to her that to have the proper nutrition for her and the baby, she must have a completely balanced diet during the day. Of course, this could be a small pregnancy quirk that will be overcome as she gets on in her pregnancy.

No this is not normal at all, if anything often they will eat more and eat things they did not eat before.

She needs to eat healthy for the baby

Actually, this is quite common in early pregnancy. Especially around the 6-12 week mark. Most likely she is experiencing morning/afternoon/evening sickness. Hormones are running rampant right now and smells are probably driving her crazy.

What sorts of things is she eating now? She needs to eat small frequent meals throughout the day. About 6 small meals if she can. A piece of fruit here or there won't hurt either.

Most importantly, she needs to stay away from cravings that are non-foods. Many pregnant women crave corn starch or even dirt. It is a disorder called PICA and can be very dangerous to both mother and child

Thanks all for the care & answers. Sorry for the late response, wasn't having access to internet for a long time. She is now eating OK, it was a temporary issue. She is 13 weeks & had her scan day before yesterday, the little baby looks so cute :)

    Thanks all once again.
