    Yaz
Hey, I have been the oral contraceptive Yaz for a year or so now and take it regularly and hardly ever miss a pill, however I have been on the anitbiotic, Augmentin for about 3 days now. I am just worried because last night I was intimate with my partner, he used a condom when he was ready to ejaculate but we had a lot of foreplay and he did go inside of me with out a condom on, this cycle happened 3 times during the night, I am worried that he could have transferred sperm into me when he did not have a condom but had already ejaculated. I have taken 18 of my Yaz tablets this months and am wondering if there is still a chance I could pregnant? Thanks so much.

Yes, there is a chance. Antibiotics reduce the effect of the pill, which you already know. There is plenty of sperm in pre-ejaculate (the substance that makes his penis slippery enough to enter you) to get you pregnant. If he entered you without a condom, even if he didn't ejaculate, there is a risk of pregnancy any time you have sex, even if you're not on antibiotics. Being on antibiotics just increases the chances.

Does it not matter that I have been taking the pill regularly, won't that reduce my chance of getting pregnant because the hormones in the pill will prevent my body from producing an egg?

No, it really doesn't matter. Antibiotics can make the pill ineffective, which is why a doctor will tell you to use an alternate form of birth control while on antibiotics.

Just an fyi. Even if you're on the pill and take it religiously, you can still ovulate, and still become pregnant. No form of birth control is 100%. The pill is one of the best forms, but even it has a failure rate, and while on antibiotics, that failure rate is a lot higher.

There are women on this site that used 3 forms of birth control, all correctly, and still became pregnant, some more than once. It happens all the time.
