Sewer line
I've just had my 70 yr orangeburg "pipe" replaced with pvc. My question is: should solid waste pass the cleanout with one flush?

It all depends on the design of your system. But even if solids do drop off the next flush or drain will push it along to the city main. I'm surprised the Orangberg lasted that long. Good luck, Tom

Tom, Thanks for your reply. That is exactly the situation. I was concerned with a pitch problem.

The pitch of the drain pipe should be about 1/8th inch per foot.

I flushed a solid and went outside to look into the clean out. I found a minimal water flow. Went back inside and flushed again and turned on the tub. After a couple of seconds water gushed and the solid passed. I will be happy to answer any further investigative questions you may have.

I apologize for the duplicate message. First time I've used this website and didn't know if the reply on the thread would reach you. As for the new line I hope that I'm being overly concerned. I have that tendency. Joe

Tom, One final question. Does the 1.6 gallon flush have anything to do with the solid not passing the cleanout on one flush? Thanks, Joe

Hello again Joe,
Does the 1.6 gallon flush have anything to do with the solid not passing the cleanout on one flush?
Certainly the more water you flush the better drainage, That's a given.
However I think your concerns are needless. As long as your system has pitch you'll have drainage. Good luck, Tom
