    Late period
Okay so I had my last period on 24th of July 2012 it's now 18th of September and still no period so my period is at least 3 weeks late! I did a test with my school health nurse when I was 9 days late. But it came back negative. I have been very moody and tired and have had cramps in my abdomin. I was just wondering even though the test came back negative could I still be pregnant?

Time to take another test. How old are you?

Yes, you could still be pregnant.

False negatives are very common, especially if you test too early. Many women don't get an accurate result on a pregnancy test until they've missed two periods, sometimes more.

Try another test using first morning urine. If that test is negative then it's time to see your doctor for a more accurate blood test.

I would retest again. If your period doesn't return, see a Dr.

It's not that the test is a lie. False negatives are very very common. Most times it's because the woman tested too early, or didn't take the test properly.

At 3 weeks late it definitely would be a better time to test, but even then a false negative is possible. Using first morning urine will give you more accurate results.

You're 3 weeks late. To me that sounds like there's a high chance of pregnancy.

You're welcome. Do it first thing, as soon as you get up. The reason for that is that your urine is more concentrated in the morning, and therefore any pregnancy test will be more accurate with that urine.

Let us know how it goes. If you are pregnant you do have options, and we can discuss those with you, but first find out if you are, or aren't.

Good luck. I know it's hard, but try to get some rest tonight, and don't worry too much.

I'm sorry, but now you have some decisions to make. You are going to have to tell the father as well as your parents. You also need to make an appointment with an OB/GYN for your first prenatal appointment.

    I'm really sorry.

You do have options, and we're here to discuss those options with you.

Of course option number one is to have the baby and keep it. It won't be easy, not by a long shot, and chances are that you'll end up doing this alone, most teen dads don't stick around. But, if you think you can manage it, that's an option.

Options two is adoption. It's not easy to carry a child for 9 months, go through labor and delivery, and then give the child away, but, if you know you can't care for a child right now, it's a very good option, and there are millions of wonderful people out there that would love to have a child, but can't. You can even have an open adoption, where you can have contact with your child, get pictures, and be updated on how the child is doing.

The third option is abortion. This is also not an easy choice, but it is the only choice where you won't have to carry the child to term, or deliver. If this is something you're thinking about you'll have to decide very soon. Most states will not perform abortions after the first trimester, so you'll really have to think about this, and if it's an option, we can help you find a way to go about it. You may need your parents consent, depending on where you live, but ultimately the choice is yours.

We're here, so come back, let's talk and figure this out. :)

Thank you for your support! I could never personally have an abortion. And I don't think I could go trough giving up my baby. I want to keep it. I have faith in mine and my boyfriends relationship and tryst he will stick with me. But I know if he doesn't I'll be fine

It won't be easy, but I respect your decision.

You will need prenatal care for your baby. You can get prenatal vitamins at most pharmacy's, or your doctor can prescribe one. Prenatal vitamins are very important for the healthy development of your baby.

You will need to tell your parents, which won't be easy, but it's not something you'll be able to hide from them.

You'll need to find an OBGYN, your family doctor can recommend someone. You'll see the OBGYN every month until the final month of pregnancy, when you'll go every week.

If you're in the States it won't be cheap to deliver this baby. The average cost is $12,000, and that's if there aren't any complications.

Any help or advice that you need, just ask, we'll be here.:)
