That's because the moms went to work in the late '70s and early '80s, deserting the schools and taking away the volunteer strength. I had kids in 1970 and 1975 and was a school volunteer during the height and then the end of school volunteering. Our school of 275 had 68 mom and dad volunteers doing tutoring, paper grading, lunch and playground monitoring, classroom tutors and mods, art and music volunteer programs, you name it.

Nope. It gave the teachers time to prepare and actually teach and not have to busy themselves with mundane duties. Handwriting, art, music, recess, gym class, a half-hour lunch period were all part of the regular school day. Plus, parents were very visible as volunteers, so behavior was much better. And the students knew both teachers and parents cared and wanted to see their best work.

That's good to hear.
Going on Santorum's C.V. I would say he has many intellectual pursuits. However, he must think there is some political milage in pushing this anti-intellectual line.

Tut ,it's the opposite . It's the Ivy League egg heads who think they have a monopoloy on the correct way to structure society and govern it . Look at the disdain shown here for the 'stupid ','dumb' etc. . That is prevalent among the left .

I couldn't disagree more as it seems a lack of willingness to compromise that's gumming up the works here, and its not the egg heads in Ivy town that say my way, or the highway.

Hello again, tom:
You may be fine with STUPID politicians making laws that effect your life, but I'm not. As long as your side reserves its "disdain" for the elite, and the educated, your side will remain STUPID.
Do I have disdain for the stupid? Not as long as the stupid aren't running my life.

That's just plain funny coming from those who supported the collective hissy fit protesting the "1 percent" known as the Occupy movement. I thought disdain for the elite was a good thing.

No one has disdain for education, unless you're an Islamist that wants his women stupid, I have disdain for the liberal education system we have that produces Obots that try to force their students to sign a pledge to vote for Obama, argues with their students, browbeats a little white girl for supporting McCain and teach them to sing the praises of Barack.
Why shouldn't I be pi$$ed at that?

Nope, they believe that those financial elites in the corporate world and the government have a disproportional influence on all matters that have curtailed economic mobility.

I'm the one who says the banks should've been allowed to fail. So long as the country continues to embrace moral hazard then we will continue to have "banksters".. Want to put people in jail ? How about the public servants who were bribed (hello Frank and Dodd!! ) .
