    Emancipation
I'm 16 and I do not have a job, I researched things I would need to have to get emancipated, and I don't fit the requirements. I'm in a struggle with my family, my father was never there. My mother lacks responsibility. She's told me she doesn't care. And I feel alone. I know I can do better by myself. I have many friends I can live with, and I can get a job. How can this workout?

It doesn't... Mooching off others is not supporting yourself. If you have to mooch.. no court in the world is going to emancipate you.

It does not, it has you living with others, who often end up controlling or taking more advantage of you so you don't end homeless.

It means you start a plan, you get a job, you start earning and saving money, and you start making a one or two year plan.

The court wants to see those things first. How do you know you can get a job? Saying it doesn't make it happen. Who are the friends you can live with? Are they over 18, with their own places? Work on those two aspects and maybe you can apply to the court. You have all summer.
If you think your mother doesn't care, wait until you are on your own. If you have something to contribute, yes, but if you are counting on being given a roof over your head, forget it. Do you know how much a typical apartment costs, with utilities, internet, TV, phone? Maybe if you had 5 people in a 2 bedroom apartment you could just squeak by.

Get a job, and work it out with the friends you plan to live with so you're a tenant not a mooch. Agree to pay $__ per month for food shelter and utilities. That will make it much more appealing to the court to grant emancipation.

Really... care to back any of that up with some proof... nothing you said qualifies a minor to be emancipated in the eyes of the court.

Crashing at a friends place... WON'T do it... it has to be your OWN place without help. Part time job won't do it either... and a minimum wage job won't pay enough to convince them either...

But then what does the actual law matter anyway?

Keep in mind this poster I quoted is 16 and NOT legally emancipated themselves... and is in no position to offer advice on this topic.

Post the law on this, please. You're posting on a legal board and you couldn't be more wrong.
