Uninsulated wall with a sound like a intermitten tiny jackhammer! What is it?
Tiny jackhammer sound in the wall is near the ceiling. There may be one telephone wire in the wall. I don't think it's an animal as I have plugged the only mouse/squirrel hole I can find. Is there an insect that could be doing it? Or what!?

Is it a wood wall? Maybe a Woodpecker? Mice don't make holes high on a wall.

Could be water related. Try shutting off water and see if it still happens.
We have Woodpeckers, they sound like jackhammers when they are pecking the Metal shutters.

The noise is inside the wall. No evidence of holes. No waterpipes in the wall. It's a real mystery!

They all make small holes... rarely make big ones... if its high enough they might not be easy to see without a ladder if they move around a lot. And they can pound VERY fast for short stretches... if you've heard one pounding on your house... you would know what I mean... I have. And they will sound like a jackhammer for a few seconds at a time. Made a hole about an inch and a half around up under my eaves once a few years ago. I annoyed it enough it finally left... Now if the side of your house is something like Brick... its obviously something else.
