My daughter was bit by a mouse yesterday at school. They cleaned it, disinfected it, put a band aid on with an ice pack. Today it is a little red, and the cut is on the top of her finger, and isn't very big or deep. But, today she said that it felt like it was on fire and numb. I gave her some Ibuprofen, plus we put neosporin on it with a band aid and ice pack. Should I take her in to see a doctor? And is there anything more that they could do for her?

If it is causing her that much pain I would say that taking her to the doctor wouldn't be a bad idea. Mice can be carriers of lots of strange illnesses and bacteria which can be transmitted by a bite. Numbness would imply that there may be some type of infection that you may definitely want to get checked out. They can give her some antibiotics and get the infection nipped in the butt before it spreads.
    Better safe than sorry!

Also when was the last time she had a tetanus shot? You might want to get her a tetanus booster.

The good news is that mice are rarely if ever carriers of rabies, so you don't have to worry about that! I'm also assuming it was class pet which brings the chance of rabies being involved down to virtually impossible.

If you decide to not take her to the doctor I'd suggest to keep doing what you have been. Keep the bite area clean - a little bit of hydrogen peroxide and neosporin are good. Also watch for any massive swelling, spreading of the numb area, or fever... in which case go to the ER ASAP.

Let us know how she does!

    Good luck!!

This is some limited information from the CDC regarding diseases possibly carried by various rodents in various parts of the world. This was the first site I found and you may be able to get more info if you search. I think that if it were my child I would go to a clinic type facility which would be less expensive possibly (don't know your insurance status) and at least get a medical opinon. I am not a medical expert but they might want to know about tetanus shot status, etc.
