As you know, your doctor was just trying to wake her up a bit so that he could see a good flluctuation in her heartbeat. We call those accelerations, and they typically don't happen when the baby is sleeping. Don't worry, it won't hurt your baby.

At 37 weeks your doctor will only do a medical induction if you or the baby are having health issues. A doctor will not induce just because mom is stressed. If she wasn't okay your doctor would have sent you on to the hospital.
As long as she is having her wakeful periods and her sleepy times all should be well. NSTs are done for a number of reasons and I'm not going to speculate why your doctor is doing them on you because I don't want to concern you unnecessarily if I'm wrong.
It sounds as though you have a very good and thorough doctor. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask him or his nurse to explain everything to you in terms you will understand.
