Do you think it is a good thing or a bad thing that my girlfriend is also my best friend? We both tell each other that we are each others best friends: we tell each other everything and are always there for each other. We have always been really close and we started dating a few months ago. We know that our relationship will end eventually (we are in middle school) and we have discussed being close friends after we brake up and both know we are comfortable with it happening even though it will hurt us both. But we are still really close. Does this sound like it would work out? Is it better that we are best friends than not? Just kind of want some other opinions. Thanks

My husband is my best friend too, of course we are significantly older than you but nevertheless he is my friend... most of the best relationships are based on friendship, honesty, trust and communication. The fact that you can tell each other anything, speculate about the future, and be honest with each other about the future, shows a maturity far beyond your years... Not saying that if or when the break up happens you both won't be hurt, you will, but you will get over that a remember the friendship and find your way back there.

No I actually started both conversations. I mentioned breaking up but I made sure to say that I didn't want to and she said she didn't either. I also mentioned how I want to stay good friends after the break-up.
