What happens if the CPS gets a hold of you?
I am only 15 years old and I have some abuse going on at home from my step mom and I have told my school counselor about it and I was wondering what will it take for the CPS to come and get me because I want to be taken away from my family. I need help. I am pretty sure that my step mom abused me. I have a scar on my neck. I pretty sure that my dad knows about it but I want to be taken away from them. My friend told me that she will adopt me! But I seriously need help! What do I do next? Can I be taken away from my family? What will the CPS do?

Varies by department, but normally they will investigate and perhaps have parents go to counseling or parenting classes. They will do a home study and make attempts to allow you to stay at your home. If you have to be removed you may be put first in a emergancy foster care, while they try to keep this close, it can be in various parts of your city, or in smaller areas cities in nearby area. They will then look at other family members who may be able to keep you on a temp basis while they try to get the situations fixed at your home to allow you to return home

Well what if I don't want to go back with my family? I am so scared of them and I'm tired of the stress that is going on. If my parents go to counseling classes, will I have to go back with them? Do I have a right if I can stay with them or not?

If they are willing to work on the problems and go to counseling (and take you along), you will continue to live there. Make sure you have a social worker contact or even just the family counselor whom your family will be meeting with whom you can call whenever things get to be too much for you.

But I do not want to go back with my family. All my family hates me because my step mom told everyone was going on so they think I am full of shi*. I haven't been truthful to my step mom because I am scared of what she will do to me. I am not comfortable with her and my dad doesn't even do anything about it. It just follows what my mom says.

But what if things improve? You want help, but you don't really want help.

Such as what kind?
I am pretty sure that my step mom abused me.
Pretty sure?
I have a scar on my neck.
A scar is an old injury from something. What had caused this injury?
My friend told me that she will adopt me!
That's not possible.

No CPS does not give you any choice or say in the matter, if you go or if you stay or if you go and get put back some case worker decides it all.
Their first and main goal is to keep you in the home, if there are signs of abuse, ( what other abuse beyond just the one choke)
1. they will first investigate, talk to mom, talk to dad, talk to you ( and any other family members in home) They may talk to neighbors and others who may now things about the case,
2. At this point they may set up family counseling as a group, they may believe one or both parents require parenting classes. The case worker may do weekly inspections of the home and talk to each person during that.
A case needs to be very serious before the child is taken out, and then they will still try to work out and get you back into the home. ( again, does not matter what you want)
No a friend is not going to "adopt" you.
