After expending much energy in his campaign spee... State of the Union address and most of last year, we learn today that President "fair share" Obama's staff owes over $800,000 in back taxes.

36 Obama aides owe $833,000 in back taxes

How embarrassing this must be for President Obama, whose major speech theme so far this campaign season has been that every single American, no matter how rich, should pay their "fair share" of taxes.

Because how unfair -- indeed, un-American -- it is for an office worker like, say, Warren Buffet's secretary to dutifully pay her taxes, while some well-to-do people with better educations and higher incomes end up paying a much smaller tax rate.

Or, worse, skipping their taxes altogether.

A new report just out from the Internal Revenue Service reveals that 36 of President Obama's executive office staff owe the country $833,970 in back taxes. These people working for Mr. Fair Share apparently haven't paid any share, let alone their fair share.

Previous reports have shown how well-paid Obama's White House staff is, with 457 aides pulling down more than $37 million last year. That's up seven workers and nearly $4 million from the Bush administration's last year.

Nearly one-third of Obama's aides make more than $100,000 with 21 being paid the top White House salary of $172,200, each.

I personally think he should never utter the words "fair share" again until his staff contributes theirs. And I would hope the occupiers would occupy Pennsylvania Ave until they do.

I don't know. When I was employed, there wasn't any mechanism for me to NOT pay my taxes. They WITHHELD it. When I was self employed, the government had NO IDEA whether I owed 'em or not.

Except when I drew unemployment... THOSE earnings were taxable but they didn't WITHHOLD anything... So, I had a balance... The IRS came after me with EVERYTHING they had to collect their piddly little balance... That's what they do!

Plus, being an expert here on the law boards, I don't believe the IRS would simply LET wage earners off the hook, no matter WHERE they worked - especially if they know exactly WHO it is that owes them - and just REPORT the data instead.. That's not the IRS I'm familiar with. I don't believe it.

So, unless your right wing rag, or radio station, or even the IRS itself can tell me HOW this takes place, I'm going to say, nahhhhhh.

The report is from the IRS, so are you telling me people are honest and government functions like a well-oiled machine and there's no way this could happen? And it is back taxes and like everyone else they can pretty well tell their employer how much to deduct from their checks. I can claim 28 exemptions if I want, how much do you suppose is withheld then?

I'm sure it just slipped their minds to pay their fair share.

Interesting... Investors Business Daily is a rag . 1st time I've ever heard it described that way.

The LA Times and the Washinton Post (those rags! ) also quotes from the report and reports that 3% of the federal civilian and Postal Service workforce -- owed about $1 billion to Uncle Sam in 2010, including 684 congressional staffers who owed more than $10 million.

But to Clete's point. Buffett is doing the talk circuit as a toady to the President touting the so called "Buffett Rule " . He bellyaches that he isn't paying enough taxes while his company is suing the IRS for over taxation.

That's not true, and you know it, because the minority party can filibuster everything, and create a stalemate, doesn't matter what party has a majority. If Romney or Gingrich does win they will find that out for themselves, unless we are dumb enough to give repubs the same thing we gave Bush, All three house of government, and in case you have forgotten how that worked out, let me remind you, 2 wars, unpaid for legislation, and deficits, after inheriting a surplus, and the worst recession since 1929.

Tal, being obstructionist was cool in 2006 when the Dems took over. In fact, that was their publicly stated agenda, block everything and investigate the hell out of the Bush administration. In 2010, neither the House or the Senate passed a budget and this last was the first time the Senate passed a budget since 2009, and the Senate - still controlled by Dems - sat on their butts and dug in their heels until our credit was downgraded. Don't talk to me about do-nothing, obstructionist Republicans.

Oh yeah, Dems also had a veto-proof majority for 7 months and this president doesn't care about rules or the constitution either, he just makes his own rules. Y'all ought to think about that before the next Republican wins the White House.

Tal your facts are not quite correct.
Bush had a majority in the House for 6 of 8 years this is true .
In the Senate he walked in with an even split but lost the majority when Jim Jeffords was "persuaded " to jump ship . The Senate went from 50-50 ,with Cheny serving as tie breaker to a majority Dems(Jeffords actually went independent but caucused with the Dems ) making Tom Daschel the majority leader and changing all the head of the Committees to Dem control.

Then the Dems controlled the majority during the years the wars were declared and debated .

The Repubics got the majority in the Senate after the midterm elections ;but never had a super majority... not even close .The Repubics had a 51-49 Majority.Many of the domest polices that were enacted during those years ,like Medicare Part D and NCLB were enacted as a result of his "reaching across the aisle " to clowns like Ted Kennedy. Both those initiatives were things he wanted done.

All of Congress had a majority Dem ;including a Super majority in the Senate for Obama's 1st 2 years (if you include Lieberman ) between 2006 and 2010.
