    Ex has car
My ex is using a car that I am paying for. I am the only one on the title and I pay all insurance. What are my options? I have given her 2 months to get it refinanced in her name and she has not done it.

    Hello o:

Give her 48 hours to return it, or you'll report it stolen.

Agree with Excon - in my area the Police will help you regain your property but will not take a stolen vehicle report if you KNOW where it is and it was taken with your permission.

That very well may vary in other areas.

There's always the option of a lawsuit. She took your property. You could sue her for the return of it or reimbursement.

I think he is saying he is the registered owner and only person on the title and he pays the insurance.

Just go get it, when she is at work, or it is parked in front of her house, just go over , get into it and drive off. It is your car.

I guess I need a translator! I thought OP was saying he held only the Title. Now I see he may be saying "title" and meaning "registration." Yes, if he's the registered owner he just goes and takes it. (Bring the paperwork if she calls the Police and stay off private property unless you are with the Police.)

I've posted before that I hold title to a car but am not the registered owner and that's where my head was at!

Sorry for the murky question. I took the loan out in my name and I am the only one on all the paperwork. No co-signer.

As Fr_Chuck says, just "repo" the car. As long as you can do it peacefully, you're in the clear. Or, if you are hesitant about doing this, hire a repo company. That's what they do for a living.

This assumes that the OP has a set of keys. And it leaves open the possibility that the GF may come and take it right back using the set of keys she still has in her possession. If you do this you should consider having the car keys recoded, which unfortunately can be quite expensive.

As the record owner, OP can get the keys through a dealer.

And if the GF takes the car back, without being on the title or having permission to use the car, that would be theft. In that event call the police.

It's not in her name. She would be stealing the car, keys or no keys.
