First by stop using the terms sperm donor, since I doubt you went to the clinic and had a real sperm donor.

First nothing can happen till after the baby is born, Next in most places you will need to be married to the new friend for at least a year. If not married, then showing a long term relationship of over a year in other places.

At that point you and your husband with you file a motion in court to adopt, then the bio father can sign over his rights.

Until that time you need to file for child support, often the filing for support helps remind them why they want to sign their rights over.

First a sperm donor generally signs over their rights when they donate their sperm. Or are you talking about someone you chose to have sex with?

A biological father can't just sign over their rights. Only a court can terminate those rights. And nothing can be done until the child is born.

Your boyfriend could sign an acknowledgement of paternity but that would be committing fraud. However, if you marry the boyfriend either before or within a year of the child being born he could be considered the legal father by default.

Or, you could marry and he could apply to adopt and the bio father can agree.

Chuck wasn't being rude. He was reacting to your apparently pejorative use of the term "sperm donor". A sperm donor is a person who donates (or even sells) their sperm to help woman achieve pregnancy when there are other obstacles to doing so. However, too often we we find woman use that term to refer to man they chose to have sex with, and then, after becoming pregnant, the man wants nothing to do with them or the child. By using the term to refer to such a person, you are denigrating people who give their sperm to a sperm bank. Many of us here take offense at using the term that way.

Chuck and I pretty much said the same things (we posted at the same time).

And if you go into court calling him a sperm donor, don't except a judge to be all warm and fuzzy, he will assume your perhaps have an agenda and could not even allow the adoption till he further investigates.

Sorry but your attitude toward the father of the child, and it is HIS child also, even if he does not want to accept it. And he has many rights if he decides to ask for them.
