Any of the above will lead to additional resources. The majority of research is derived from NIH so I can't testify to its factual content—only that it is authoritative.

Marilyn Huestis with NIH is the most prolific researcher and leading authority on cannabis use in the US. By googling "Huestis and cannabis" you can obtain volumes of the most current info.

Hope that helps. If you need more get back to us.

Here is some info on toxic effects:

Chronic marijuana smoking is associated with increased toxicity and the risk of cancer of the respiratory tract. There is evidence of disturbance of the immune system and teratogenic effects of chronic cannabis use http://www.novoseek.com/DocumentDeta...ana%20toxicity

The pathophysiological effects of marijuana smoke and its constituent cannabinoids: http://www.novoseek.com/SearchAction...9-p=3&filters=

    Neuro toxicity (hippocampus) http://www.druglibrary.org/crl/neuro...0JNeurosci.pdf

And finally, a gold mine for you. The following study from British Journal of Pharmacology (2010) (available in entirety on line) is a complete, thorough and objective assessment of cannabis and mental disorders. Fully referenced (over 200). Available here:
Adolescent cannabis use and psychosis: epidemiology and neurodevelopmental models

That should be enough not only to win the debate but get you a scholarship to the medical school of your choice.

It is illegal, as such it will get you fined, possible jail time and can stop you from getting employment or get you fired from employment.

Beyond that in my opinion it is no worst than many legal vices allowed to US citizens.
