    Portable Hard Drive Not Recognized
I have a portable Toshiba HDDR320E03X hard drive. It has been working, and now it is not recognized in disk management, device manager, or my computer. When the computer starts up the drive is not listed, what is that called Bios. The connection to the desktop computer has been loose, and I have had to giggle the wire for some time. The wire, which came with it was very short, and I had to position it very close to the computer. It has slipped off the monitor shelf several times.
When I hold it up to my ear I can hear it, and feel the slight vibration, when I hold it. I would really like to retrieve the data, since that was the drive where I stored my data. I know I should have backed up the data on a disk, but did not do so.
Is my data lost, or can it be retrieved? If I can retrieve the data could you please give me the steps to do so.

What kind of cable are you connecting with? USB, Firewire, eSATA ?

It could just be the cable is bad.

(im presuming it is a usb connection to the pc)
I would also recommend trying it in a different usb port in case it's that usb port
