Surrendering to a bench warrant but worried about another I have on traffic issue
I am planning to turn myself in on a bench warrant I have in Waukegan, IL. Today. I missed a court date embarrassing to say but as a single mom I really didn't have the money to go and can barely cover my bills and food. My case is a felony theft case and I am paying resitituion and haven't missed court before this instance.

Problem is I found out I have a traffic court warrant too in another City/County in IL.te. The counties are close enough to have me worrying if the judge let me go on the Bench Warrant in Waukegan, IL. That I'm surrendering to today will they hold me for the traffic warrant in the other County or City.

Again I have small children and afraid of missing work being that I'm already barely making it financially.

Also, I'm turning myself in without a Lawyer is that wise?

If you do not have an attorney, hire one, if you turn yourself in and you are "indigent" you should be appointed one (though with some cost to you). Turning yourself in... hmmm... its good to get the warrant recalled, but you should have an attorney there to keep you from saying something that will get you into more trouble, where is your attorney from the underlying matter (the theft)? Just be very careful what you say and nothing to the DA, directly.

As for the other warrant in traffic court, you need to take care of that one too... and remember, no matter how busy you are, if you are violated and go to prison--hows that helpful?

What agreement or arrangement do you have for turning yourself in ? To be released on bail as soon as you do, or to have the hearing the next day ?

If you turn yourself in, you could be held a week or even a couple weeks for a hearing on he original charge.

Next it depends, in some area traffic warrnants are not put in the national data base, If the warrant is in the data base, and if they will come and get you for it, ** they will have to be real close for a traffic ticket**
But yes, they will hold you for the city who will come get you for their court.
