    The question of the day
Could 'time traveller' caught on film in The Circus mean Future Day has arrived? | News.com.au

So here is an interesting one for all you film buffs, mobile phones in 1928? Now we are all aware of the blunders in period films. The stage hand in the shot or the actor with the wrist watch but here we have a piece in film shot in 1928 with a person doing something very familiar to us today. Someone thinks it is a mobile phone, I don't know, perhaps it is James T Kirk in drag saying beam me up Scotty. Did they have small voice recorders in 1928? I can't think of other possible explanations but whatever the scene is strangely out of place and time. Could it be a joke, an elaborate hoax? Or is it evidence that the government has been keeping things from us once again?

I saw it answered on another site:
Siemens Hearing Instruments - Our History

    Or

    "Never did see a “device.”
They look like hired extras walking in the background. Overweight woman is saying stuff to the guy walking in front of her. Something like “How many more times are we going to have to shoot this stupid scene.”
She has her hand on netting attached to the underside of her hat, to keep it from blowing off in the breeze. Could not resist sneaking a peek at the camera."

Well you may have answered it there apparently was a small portable microphone invented in 1924 but if you look carefully at the picture you can see the woman has more than a net in her hand

I watched the entire thing (twice) and still never actually saw anything in her hand... and I have seen people talking to themselves LONG before Cell phones... hands curled up like that have a number of reasons... arthritis being only one... the hand could have easily been on her chin... as well as her forehead... but maybe in this case maybe their ear was cold or bothering them...

And yeah.. I've seen woman that seriously looked like men.. and vice versa. None of which were actually trying to.

Of course... since all involved parties are long dead... how could you prove anything either way.

I think it's a case of someone trying to overanalyze something.

    Hello clete:

I don't know WHY you think the government did it. In fact, I invented the machine back in 2208, and have been using it ever since. So, when I tell you stuff, you should listen, because I KNOW the future.

Sci fi is frequently visionary. That is why it's such a fun read. Star Trek was routinely using sat phones in their communications and they were only a couple decades ahead of time. Now if only they would get them holodecks up and running...

    Hello again, tom:

It's happening quicker than we could imagine... Microsoft just introduced a game controller called Kinect, that brings us one step closer to the holodeck. It watches, listens and REACTS to the gamer just moving his body and waving his arms...

In my view, porn sites will be the first to offer a holodeck exerience...

Hi Ex you sure do know how to ruin a good conspiracy theory and that device you describe is called a Wii isn't it or something similar, nice to know they are developing it into something where you don't need to pull a muscle to operate it, but don't we already have a miniture version.

Back to the future and the conspiracy theory the woman could have been doing some covert survellience and was caught reporting in. After all Charlie Chaplin was a little suspect

    Hello again, clete:

No, it's the Kinect. It's not like the Wii at all. You don't carry it. It sits on your console. It recognizes your face. It knows when you come into a room. It listens to your commands. It goes ON when you tell it to. It's spectacular...

No, I don't have one. I don't even play games. I've only read about it. And, I'm impressed. I'm convinced the holodeck will be a reality in your children's lifetime, or by stardate 23.4

Yeah I remember the hollywood version from the film Total Recall, reality mirroring art again. I am concerned, Ex, with the development of systems that take us further and further from reality

It's not really that amazing, sorry to burst your bubble. It simply takes the old PS2 Eye Toy to the next level. As opposed to an infrared sensor that sees the motion of a controller, the "Kinect" is a camera that sees the person and puts their movements into the game. Feel free to search YouTube for videos, you'll come away unimpressed.

I watched that clip with my son at least 2 dozen times. Each time I concentrated on a different part of the man/woman. Did you get a load of the long, pointed Mary Janes she/he was wearing? Now those are some out of date shoes say from the MIddle Ages or something. Could possibly be a time traveler but I would not put it past the person in the clip to "know" they were being filmed and could not resist looking at the camera. And no one with artiritic fingers could/would hold their hand up to their ear like that either as it would be too uncomfortable to do so for lengthy situations. A friend of mine who travels in scientific circles said that anything like this is possible as time travelers DO exist and sometimes wear the "wrong" clothes for the time they are traveling to such as the pointed shoes in the clip.
