    Shoplifting consequences in canada
    Hi, I'm a 18 yr old boy who made a terrible mistake recently.
    My jeans got a little loose and so I wanted a new ones in a smaller size. So I went to a AE store, changed to a new pair of jeans, and walked out with my old jeans still in the store. I really don't know what I was thinking about... I felt really guilty the whole time and an hour later decided to get my old jeans back. So I left the ones that I stole back in the store and left with my original jeans, which the employees have kept on the counter (this is because my jeans aren't from AE, so the employees must have found weird that something that is not their product is found in their store)

    What I'm afraid of now is that the employees in the store may suspect a shoplifting incident and may try to identify the person by going through security cameras. Are they able to identify a shoplifter if the person's face is caught on the camera? I'm so scared that they will bring in police, identify me, and call my parents or something. I brought the new jeans back, but it's true that I've done something wrong...

    No, but they'll search the jeans you wore for any traces of DNA, and run that through a data base and find you that way...

    Ok, maybe not. No. They can't identify you by your picture.

    Hi excon, I really hope that you were joking about the DNA stuff. It freaked me out until I read the rest of your reply. But are you sure that they can't identify people by pictures? Don't they have a database that can match people's faces with their personal information?
