On probation, go to college out of state?
Hello everyone. I got a felony aug. 24 of last year. Did 6 months, and another 6 on the bracelet. Now I'm on parole and probation. My parole was 6 months and it ends in 2 months, my probation is supposed to be 3 years. Parole / probation are running concurrent. My question is: I finish my community college in December (not relevant but I have a 3.8 gpa). My school adviser told me I have many opportunities going to great private schools out of state. Can my probation officer tell me I cannot go to school out of state and prevent me from getting a great education just because I'm on probation? (by the time I actually apply I will already be 8 months into probation). I always follow the rules and never failed a drug test and my part in the crime was a driver to a home invasion. I didn't even enter the house or put my hands on anyone which is why I got out in 6 months instead of doing the full year like my co defendants did who actually hurt the person and entered their house. Please help I'm too scared to ask my PO because I don't want to hear him say I can't go to the school of my choice after working very hard maintaining a high gpa. Thanks people

Hello red:
Don't be scared. Just go about your job in a business like manner. Read this, and follow it exactly.

All right thanks excon. I have another question as well. Do you think I should just stick it out here with my current PO for at least half my probation and find a good school around here? My ultimate goal is to get off probation early; I never fail drug tests, and never skip payments, nothing. I'm an ideal candidate. Do you think if I transfer in a year or something, they may just terminate me if I decide to go to school out of state? This probation is really affecting me negatively in so many aspects of my life. Please help me

Hello again, red:
I don't think WHERE you live will affect getting off probation early or not.
Look. You go in once a week. You pee in their bottle and say yes. You pay your money, and you keep your head down. Piece of cake, really.

I guess you are right. But 3 years probation when all I did was sit in a car and pick up 2 kids who committed a home invasion? I mean yeah, I was accessory, I understand that, but this is unreal. I did not put a finger on anybody. This is truly pathetic. Is there any way I can get off early you think if I pay my $60 a month ($60 x 36 months = $2160) in one payment?

Hello again, red:
I Don't think so. They'll make you do at least half - probably more.

You will almost always to about 3/4 of your probation, but 1/2 is almost a min. They want to watch and catch you mess up.
And to be honest, you were the get away driver, and you are lucky you did not do prison time, so thinking that probation is not fair, seems a little silly to me personally.
But agree with excon, just do what you are told, say yes sir , no sir and pay on time.

Hey guys what do I do about this situation (and I know this is going to sound stupid as heck).. I truly cannot pee in a cup or anywhere for that reason if there is a guy watching me... ive told my PO this many times and he will turn his head or turn around while I begin to pee. What do I do if I just cannot squeeze it out? I don't want to get in trouble just because I cannot produce urine while being watched. I truly hate being urine tested. Please help

Hello again, red:
These are NOT nice people. You'll pee the way THEY want you to pee, or they'll violate you.

Damn I should have never done what I did. That's a fact. If I go to school far away but in the same state, is he still going to tell me I have to come in weekly even if I'm 2-3 hours away at school?
