Hi QLP, glad you found us.
So you're being brave and letting me come up with a nickname. Seeing as your username is only three letters long, this isn't going to be easy.
Why do I want to call you Kewpie, but spelled QP?
Hey, I shortened it! That wasn't easy! ;)

I was having a discussion with a friend last night about false idols, and as an example was that there was an image of jesus, so when people with about worshiping jesus or god they have an image in their mid, even though that might not be what they looked like (if they lived) - along the right lines or did you have something else in mind ?

Um... what I have now are:
Images do not confine us, but help us to push our imagination
Reading a book encloses us in a world, where we are 'forced' to follow what the author is telling us
With now abstract paintings, we cannot say that images enslaves us, but to think wider
Psychologists use abstract images which may have multiple interpretations, and hence are not confined.

Agreed I think you have the harder task, if I were your opposition id say something along the lines of you read the words and use your imagination to picture it and your imagination is limitless.
On your side maybe a picture (image) is worth a thousand words, hence a word is only worth 1/1000 of a picture, therefore images have more capability than words,
Am I making any sense or just waffeling bull crap? :)

It's the second round for debate. My team passed the first one quite easily, but this one, we'll have to work seriously...

Images communicate more precisely than words. The perfect example is the diagram that goes along with the assembly instructions for anything.
Another example: A Renaissance painting of a moderately pretty lady seated with her hands in her lap and a half-smile on her face is a description of the Mona Lisa and totally inadequate.
There's your first point.

Kewpie/QP is fine lol. In case you are wondering QLP stands for Quiet Life Please - coined when I joined a forum for dealing with noisey neighbours, thankfully something that has quietened down now (fingers crossed it stays that way). How about just Q then I can pretend to be a James Bond genius :P? Mmm only thing is if the James Bond thing caught on someone might end up as P. Galore..

Actually, I find that more than adequate.
