Is there a bicycle stuck under the car, hopefully without a kid on it, lawn tractor?

What kind of vehicle is this? Other symptoms... like engine runs but no gears forward or reverse.. etc.

I drove it back into the drive way. It is a 1970 Buick skylark, I jacked
It up and put it on jack stands. Put it in gear and the wheels turned.
I let it down and drove it again and it made a much lower noise--but
Was able to drive it home

Take a look at your motor and transmission mounts. Particularly the transmission. See if it hasn't shifted and allowed the driveshaft or some other part to contact the body or frame. On an older car this should not be too hard to see, Also check the rear suspension control arms and look for cracks.

Check the universal joints on the driveshaft. There may also be a driveshaft bearing.

68-72 A body rears will only fit your car. Buick-Olds-Pontiac, and Chevy, but Chevy is different in some ways.
    They're plenty out there.

Don't think so. They are totally different chassis. But I haven't even been under either of those in quite a few years.
