The gynocologist of my best friend's brother's ex fiancé told her, when she was pregnant, that a woman gets her period still the first month after conception. Is this true?

I didn't either time I was pregnant. I always had normal periods 30 or so days apart and could set my watch by them.

That doesn't make sense. I mean, I know some women have reported it and all and some women experience monthly bleeding throughout there pregnancy, supposedly anyway. But, in simplest terms, the egg leaves your ovaries, goes on its journey to your uterus (I think that's the right body part. I can't find my sex ed book right now to make sure I'm thinking of the right part), is fertilized and stays there (no period) or is not fertilized and leaves (and you get your period).

And then the closest to reliable pregnancy "symptom" is supposed to be the missed period (although we all know even that can't be trusted all the time).

That just doesn't sound right to me. I can't wait to see what some of our other members say.

I'm sure there are variations from the normal -- like for an ectopic pregnancy or perhaps two eggs released and one gets fertilized while the other does the usual thing when not fertilized. But the normal is no period once a woman is pregnant.

Yeah, I'm sure there are variations from the norm. I read it as the gyno was saying it was the norm.

Some women can have bleeding for the first month or two. Others don't bleed at all. Still others have slight bleeding for the entire pregnancy.

There are NO blanket statements in health care.

Bleeding CAN occur at any time in pregnancy, especially early on, but its not due to a "true" menstral cycle.

Exactly. While there are guidelines in medicine, there are no absolutes. Every case is different, because every body is different.

yeah. And aren't you supposed to check with your dr if your dr if you do experience bleeding?

Absolutely! Better safe than sorry during pregnancy. :)

No two pregnancies are alike. Typically the first symptom of pregnancy is a missed period, but not every woman misses a period.

I'll give you an example. My next door neighbor found out she was pregnant on November 3. She delivered on November 8. She had her period the entire 9 months, and since she is a rather fluffy girl, she never looked pregnant. She also attributed the fetal movements to a gastrointestinal problem she has suffered with for the past 10 years.
